The Oxford Internet Institute (OII), in partnership with British Airways, American Airlines and oneworld, is analyzing the results of the COVID-19 rapid test pilot program.

American Airlines, British Airways and the Alliance oneworld, together with researchers from the Oxford Internet Institute (OII) and the University of Oxford, will analyze the results of the recently launched COVID-19 rapid test pilot programs.

The project “Trust, Testing and Travel, Technology Use, Traveler Knowledge and Compliance with COVID-19 Health Rules” involves researchers Oxford Internet Institute (OII) which will analyze the non-personal data collected from passengers, regarding their behavior and reaction in relation to the test program.

Since the beginning of the pilot program, on November 25, more than 500 passengers have registered to participate in this project offered by American Airlines and British Airways on certain flights from the United States to the United Kingdom.

The number of flights that are part of this pilot program has reached 5 / day from 4 American hubs:

AA50 Fort Worth Dallas (DFW) - London Heathrow (LHR)
BA114 JFK New York (JFK) - London Heathrow (LHR)
BA268 Los Angeles (LAX) - London Heathrow (LHR)
BA208 Miami (MIA) - London Heathrow (LHR)
BA112 New York (JFK) - London Heathrow (LHR)

Passengers who wish to participate in this program are tested free of charge by the airlines, as follows:

  • A PCR test 72 hours before departure
  • A LAMP test on landing at London airport
  • A PCR test performed 3 days after entering the UK

The aim is to reduce the travel restrictions imposed by the United Kingdom and the United States and to avoid the mandatory 14-day caratina when entering US territory.
