The COVID-19 pandemic led to the temporary closure of Brussels South Charleroi Airport. As of March 24, 2020, air passenger traffic has been suspended and the airport is facing an unprecedented situation.

Hoping that one day it will reopen its doors and resume its activity, Brussels South Charleroi Airport is implementing the new social distance measures.

In accordance with the recommendations of the Belgian Federal Government, in line with developments in the international situation and taking into account information received from airlines, the resumption of commercial activities at Brussels South Charleroi Airport is estimated for the beginning of June 2020.

Resumption of flights at Brussels South Charleroi Airport

On April 30, the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs bans non-essential travel abroad. This ban will be subsequently assessed by the National Security Council.

Brussels South Charleroi Airport is also in constant contact with the airlines to prepare the resumption plan.

According to all the factors mentioned above and taking into account the complexity of the current situation, the airport expects a partial resumption of its commercial activities from the beginning of June 2020.

The final date for the reopening of Brussels South Charleroi for passengers and airlines must be confirmed later, depending on the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic. The relaunch will be partial and progressive, taking into account the opening of the borders of the countries served by Brussels South Charleroi Airport, as well as their conditions and access restrictions.

Consequently, the flights from Romania to Brussels South Charleroi could be resumed after June 1, 2020. We mention that these flights are operated by Wizz Air and RYANAIR. TAROM and Blue Air fly from Romania to the main airport in Brussels - Zaventem.

Until the official relaunch date of the regular commercial activities, only medical, government and maintenance flights are operated from Brussels South Charleroi Airport.

The current crisis is severely affecting the aviation sector. No players were spared, and airlines around the world were forced to detain part or all of the fleet. And, obviously, the aviation crisis is affecting the airports as well. We are all waiting for the flights to resume!

Brussels Charleroi Airport is closed to regular passenger air traffic. In theory, they hope to reopen the airport on June 1. In practice, we will see how the COVID-19 pandemic will evolve.
