Saudia joined SkyTeam

Saudia, known as Saudi Arabian Airlines, has joined SkyTeam airline alliance. 29 was another special day for the Middle East operator because it became the 16 the full member of SkyTeam, an alliance of which TAROM is also a member.

From its hubs in Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam, Saudia operates throughout the Arabian Peninsula, the Indian Subcontinent and North Africa. Saudia added 51 new destinations on the global SkyTeam network, including 23 in Saudi Arabia. Examples of new destinations are: Islamabad, Pakistan, Colombo, Sri Lanka, Alexandria and Egypt.

Prior to joining SkyTeam, Saudi Arabian Airlines has started a vast rebranding project that will end in 2013. It involves changing the name to Saudia with the accession to the alignment, but also the modernization of IT, the commercial platform and the renewal of the fleet.

During the accession ceremony, Saudia presented two aircraft painted in SkyTeam livery. Aircraft are a Boeing B777-200 (Reg. HZ-AKC) which will operate on routes to Dubai, London, New York and Guangzhou and one Airbus A320 (Reg. HZ-ASF) which will be used mainly on routes in Europe and the United Arab Emirates.
