"The aircraft scheduled to fly Wizz Air W6 7867 from Debrecen to Paris Beauvais on 4 January 2020 had to be evacuated during the mandatory defrosting operation prior to the flight from Debrecen airport. The ground handling service and local firefighters reported a possible start of fire behind the aircraft. The crew initiated standard procedures and safely evacuated the aircraft via the front slides. All passengers left the aircraft safely. The aircraft was inspected by the airport fire service and technical teams, who confirmed that there was no fire, but the lights at the back, near the logo, and the defrost liquid vapors could have created the feeling of smoke. Passengers of the flight will be provided with accommodation and meals as the flight and the return flight - Beauvais-Debrecen - will be rescheduled tomorrow morning (January 5). The crew performed all operations professionally and according to the procedures, evacuating the aircraft. Wizz Air apologizes for any inconvenience caused, but the safety of passengers, crew and aircraft remains our top priority. ”

The Airbus A320 Wizz Air aircraft was to operate the Debrecen to Paris flight. According to the information published in the local and Romanian press, the aircraft's assistant allegedly caught fire. We are talking here about APU (Auxiliary Power Unit). This device is located in the tail of the aircraft and provides power in the aircraft for various functions, except propulsion.
The firefighters immediately intervened and managed to extinguish the fire in seconds. Simultaneously, the cabin crew activated the slides and evacuated the passengers. There were 180 passengers on board, according to some officials from Debrecen airport. Among them and many villagers and Maramures.
