South African Airways resumes operations. The carrier has confirmed that the first flights will resume on Thursday, September 23, 2021. Tickets will go on sale on Thursday, August 26, 2021, and Voyager reservations and the redemption of the travel credit voucher will be available from Monday, September 6, 2021.

Acting CEO Thomas Kgokolo said that "After months of hard work, we are delighted that SAA is resuming service and look forward to welcoming passengers back on board our aircraft and flying the South African flag around the world. We continue to be a safe carrier and comply with COVID-19 protocols. ”

In the initial phase, SAA will operate flights from Johannesburg to Cape Town, Accra, Kinshasa, Harare, Lusaka and Maputo. More destinations will be added to the network in response to market conditions and demands.

According to SAA Chairman John Lamola, since the national carrier went bankrupt at the end of April 2021, the Department of Public Enterprises together with the Board of Directors and the management team have started planning the relaunch as a restructured and purposeful airline, a company that South Africans can be proud of again.
