French Polynesian Foreign Minister Sébastien Lecornu has announced the cancellation of flights to and from French Polynesia, starting Wednesday, February 3, to avoid the spread of new Covid-19 strains.

Due to the new travel restrictions, from 3 February, travel to and from French Polynesia will be restricted, without specifying the duration of these measures, although the two-month period is in place.

"Any traveler coming or going from French Polynesia will have to justify that his situation falls into one of the three reasons that will be allowed to travel: serious personal reasons, health problems or professional reasons", and this will be done only if there are supporting documents.

In November 2020, business and non-essential travel were still allowed in the state.

It is recommended to contact Air Tahiti Nui, Air France or other airlines operating flights to Tahiti to check the flight schedule. The minister also said that there is still no decision on travelers arriving from America.

On Saturday night, on TNTV, the head of ATN, Michel Monvoisin, already mentioned that they will have another missed tourist season, stating that the air and tourism industries will continue to suffer due to the restrictions imposed during the pandemic and estimates that 2021 will be worse than 2020.
