The construction began in 1163, on the place of a place of worship dedicated to the holy deacon Stephen. And today, in 2019, the cathedral was consumed by flames.
The fire was violent. Huge flames and a thick cloud of smoke made the firefighters' intervention difficult. An official from the Ministry of Interior of France said firefighters did everything they could to save Notre Dame Cathedral. But the damage seems to be huge, both material and spiritual.
No planes or helicopters were used to extinguish the fire, officials claiming that the water released from the flight could have further destroyed the cathedral.
UNESCO has said it will support France in the restoration and rehabilitation of Notre Dame Cathedral. It is a monument of heritage with invaluable value.
