Following the reduction of international sanctions on Iran, there is a major need for modernization and development of air transport to stimulate local economies across the country and to improve connectivity between regions.

Following the lifting of the restrictions, Iran Air has established an extensive fleet modernization and operational growth process. It placed orders for hundreds of aircraft, including 40 of ATR 72-600 aircraft (20 stands for firm order + optional 20).

Four ATR 72-600 Iran Air

On 16 May 2017, the first four ATR 72-600 Iran Air were delivered. The aircraft will be able to operate on domestic routes, from and to 60 from existing airports in Iran. The ATR 72-600 is ideal for operations in difficult environments, including small aerodromes, unpaved runways and mountain areas.

ATR 72-600 will be the core of the Iran Air regional fleet. It will contribute substantially to the expansion and development of the services provided by the Iranian national airline throughout the country.

The new ATR 72-600 Iran Air aircraft can carry 68 passengers. Propulsion is provided by Pratt & Whitney 127M engines. The maximum take-off weight of an ATR 72-600 is 23 Kg. Loaded at maximum capacity, an ATR 000-72 can fly a maximum distance of 600 km.
