The A321XLR project developed by Airbus is taking shape. The first aircraft, registered MSN11000, is on the final assembly line (FAL) in Hamburg. All parts are to be assembled and the first A321XLR aircraft to be born. For the first time, three such aircraft will be assembled, which are dedicated to the different test phases. The other two A321XLR aircraft are MSN11058 and MSN11080.

According to Michael Menking, head of the A320 family of aircraft program, he mentions that all A321 models (here we mention the A321ceo and A321neo) debuted in Hamburg, which will happen with the new A321XLR. Later, after the approval of this model, Airbus can produce this type of aircraft in its other factories as well.

Once assembled, the MSN11000 will proceed to the next stage of preparation for testing. State-of-the-art Flight Testing (FTI) instruments will be installed, followed by CFM LEAP engines. The ground tests follow, during which the engines and the landing gear will be tested for the first time on this model.

If all goes well, the first A321XLR flight is scheduled for 2022. Stay tuned!
