On 19 July 2019, the first Airbus A330neo Lion Air was delivered. The Indonesian carrier received the first A330-900, becoming the first airline in the Asia-Pacific region with A330neo in the fleet.

The aircraft is leased from BOC Aviation and is the first of the 10 A330neo ordered by Lion Air.

The aircraft will be used on long-haul flights departing from Indonesia. Including pilgrimage flights from Makassar, Balikpapan and Surabaya to Jeddah and Medina in Saudi Arabia. The flight time for these routes can take up to 12 hours.

The Airbus A330-900 Lion Air aircraft is configured in a single class with 436 seats.

The A330neo model is state-of-the-art and built on the reputation of the A330 model, but incorporating the technologies from A350 XWB. Propulsion is provided by the newest Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines. The A330neo is more efficient with 25% on fuel consumption than the previous generation. At the same time, it comes with a package of multiple comfort advantages for passengers.
