The number of commercial flights registered in 2020, decreasing by 42% compared to 2019

The year 2020 was a very difficult one from all points of view. COVID-19 pandemic it has taken over our freedom, our scheduled travels, it has affected all industries. By far, aviation and tourism (plus HoReCa) were the hardest hit. The numbers speak for themselves.

Flightradar24, the biggest site dedicated to real-time flight monitoring, presented some figures recorded in 2020. Total air traffic was down 27% in 2020 compared to 2019.

However, commercial air traffic in 2020 was down by about 42% from 2019. It collapsed in April and then returned slowly to the end of August. Unfortunately, the figures were much lower than in 2019.

Travel for tourism at the end of the year led to a return of air traffic in December 2020 compared to the other months of the year, but decreased by 36,5% compared to December 2019. Commercial traffic increased by 9,2% in December 2020 compared to November 2020.
