TAP Air Portugal results in 2017: 14,274 million passengers, up by 21.7%

2017 has proven to be an excellent year for TAP Air Portugal. The Portuguese carrier announced the transport of 14,27 million passengers, up by 21,7% compared to 2016.

TAP Air Portugal had an excellent 2017 year. It managed to record an increase of 21,7% of passenger traffic (carried 2.55 millions more compared to 2016) and an increase of 4,3% of the load level, reaching 82,9%.

Shuttle flights between Lisbon and Porto, so-called route Aerial bridge, they were successful. TAP Air Portugal has carried 726 000 passengers.

The flights to North America were also full, increasing by 54.5% compared to 2016. TAP has announced that it has been carrying 729 000 passengers. And the flights to Brazil were enjoyed by passengers, carrying 1.6 millions.

And for the first time in the history of TAP Air Portugal, flights to Azores and Madeira have exceeded 1 million passengers (Azore passengers include ourselves). Specifically, the increase was 18,9%, and the number of passengers was 1.15 million. Similarly, over 1 million passengers were also on flights to Africa, and the increase was 29%.

22% growth on the European market

However, the largest increase was recorded on European routes, with 1.6 millions more passengers compared to 2016. In Europe, TAP carried a total of 8,7 million passengers in the 12 months of the year 2017. There was an increase of 22% over 2016.

In 2017, it was for the first time that TAP carried over 500 000 passengers on the Lisbon-London Heathrow, Lisbon-Barcelona and Lisbon-Madrid routes.

The best month for TAP Air Portugal was December, when it transported 1,169 million passengers, up 18,4% compared to the same month of the year 2016.

And in terms of cargo, TAP registered an increase of 25% compared to 2016, reporting the transport of 78 500 freight tonnes. It is worth mentioning that 80% of the total volume shipped originates from markets outside Portugal.

We remind you that, even in 2017, TAP Air Portugal resumed flights on the route Lisbon - Bucharest. It was inaugurated on 2 July.
