Vatican authorities have announced that as of October 1, all those wishing to visit the territory must present a COVID-19 certificate upon arrival.

Such a decision was announced Monday by the Pontifical Commission for the State of the Vatican City and will be implemented to stop the further spread of the Coronavirus and its new strains, in response to a previous request by Pope Francis.

According to Vatican authorities, entry will only be allowed to people who obtain a Green Pass, a European Green Pass or another green permit COVID-19 that confirms that tourists have been completely vaccinated or recovered against Coronavirus disease.

However, travelers who test negative for a coronavirus test will also be allowed to enter the Vatican City State, Vatican authorities have said.

Based on data provided by the World Health Organization, the Vatican reported a total of 27 cases of COVID-19 infection and no deaths have been reported since the beginning of the pandemic, based on Reuters figures.
