IATA: The effect of the 11/19 attacks on aviation is "a drop in the ocean" compared to the COVID-XNUMX pandemic

Revenues per passenger / kilometer decreased by about 66% between 2019 and 2020, compared to only 2.9% between 2000 and 2001. 18 months after the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, international traffic remains at 25% of the pre-pandemic level. Authorities have imposed health measures and restrictions without proper consultation, many of them with a devastating effect on the aviation and tourism industries.

Twenty years after the 20/11 attacks, we are still experiencing the consequences, including security and passenger control. Probably the same thing will happen after the COVID-19 pandemic. Some measures will remain in the aviation sector for a long time to come.

IATA is advocating for better coordination in order to relaunch international air transport in front of COVID-19. As security has increased since the 11/19 attacks and passengers have been much better checked, this is likely to be the case with the COVID-XNUMX pandemic. Vaccinated passengers will have more freedom of movement and will be exempted from other restrictions.
