Lufthansa has announced the destination where the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft will operate for the first time. Therefore, Lester B. Pearson International Airport in Toronto, Canada, will be the first destination outside Germany to welcome the new member of the German company's fleet.
The history of the Boeing 787 at Lufthansa began in March 2019, when the Lufthansa Group's supervisory board approved the purchase of 20 new 787-9 aircraft, along with 20 other Airbus A350-900 aircraft, with deliveries expected by the end of 2022. and 2027. The goal is to replace long-haul aircraft, as this new generation of twin-engine aircraft is extremely economical.
The 20 Dreamliner aircraft ordered, in addition to another 20 purchase options, are intended for various companies in the Lufthansa Group. However, at least some units have already been confirmed by the Group as being - specifically - part of the Lufthansa fleet.

In May this year, taking advantage of low market prices for the purchase and sale of commercial aircraft, the German company reported that purchased five more Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft which have never been used, although they have already been produced for some time and - due to the air crisis - have not been used. The group also ordered five Airbus A350-900 aircraft.
Finally, also in the last month, the Lufthansa Group, through its Lufthansa Aviation Training (LAT) training center, announced that it has become the launch customer of Boeing's latest generation of flight training device (FTD - Flight Training Device) 787 from L3Harris Technologies. Together with an additional order for a Boeing 787 Full Flight Simulator (FFS), it will provide the best-in-class solution to the Frankfurt pilot training facility.
