The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs Romanian citizens who are, transit or intend to travel to Bulgaria that the Bulgarian Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology has issued heatwave codes for August 3, 2021, as follows:

Bulgaria is under the red heat wave

  • Red code for the regions of Blagoevgrad, Pazardjik, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Haskovo, Yambol, Pleven, Veliko Tarnovo and Ruse, where temperatures will register values ​​over 41 degrees Celsius.
  • Orange code for the regions Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Sofia, Sofia-region, Pernik, Kjustendil, Loveci, Gabrovo, Sliven, Smolian, Kârdjali, Târgoviște, Razgrad, Silistra, Shumen, Dobrich, Varna and Burgas, where temperatures will register values ​​of 38 - 41 degrees Celsius.

Greece is under a code of heat and fire danger

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs Romanian citizens who are or intend to travel to the Hellenic Republic that the Greek Meteorological Service has issued a red heat code for August 3, 2021, as follows:

  • Between July 30 and August 3, 2021, temperatures will rise steadily, with maximum values ​​estimated at 43 ° C in some continental areas, and may even reach 45 ° Celsius in isolation.

In the capital Athens, temperatures will range between 41 ° and 42 ° C, with the possibility of temporarily recording higher values.

At the same time, the Greek Secretariat of State for Emergency Situations issued a fire warning (alert level 4 out of 5) for the following areas:

  • Attica region (including the capital Athens);
  • Central Greece region (Evia and Viotia areas);
  • Peloponnese region (Corinth, Argolis);
  • North Aegean Region (islands of Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Ikaria);
  • Crete Island.

The Greek authorities advise everyone to be extra careful and to avoid any outdoor activity that could negligently cause a fire. In case of fire, citizens are asked to immediately notify the fire department at 199.

Temperatures are expected to reach 45 degrees in the coming days, and the Greek government has put the country on high alert. 

More than 100 fires have been reported in Turkey

The European Union has sent aid to Turkey to help fight wildfires in various parts of the country. So far, 129 fires have been registered in 35 cities.

Saturday, thousands of tourists were evacuated by sea from hotels in southern Turkey, while fires continue to wreak havoc in the region. Bodrum and Marmaris resorts are the most affected resorts in southern Turkey. More than 1100 tourists and hotel staff were evacuated from the region.

Sicily is under siege

162 fires have been reported on the Italian island of Sicily. Of this total, 124 broke out in forests and vegetation areas, while 38 were in cities, including Palermo, Messina and Catania.

More than 800 fires have been reported throughout Italy. "In recent days, firefighters have carried out more than 800 interventions: 250 in Sicily, 130 in Puglia and Calabria, 90 in Lazio and 70 in Campania."

Several tourists were evacuated from the Pescara area after fires devastated a forest near the beach.
