From 1 September, all air passengers entering the Arab Republic of Egypt, through any airport, must present a negative molecular test (PCR) for COVID-19 infection performed no later than 72 hours before the journey.

This rule also applies to passengers in transit at airports in the Arab Republic of Egypt, even if the final destination does not require the presentation of a negative molecular test (PCR) for COVID-19 infection.

Negative molecular test (PCR) for COVID-19

The test must be of the RT-PCR type, performed by a specialized laboratory, authenticated by a stamp, without corrections and / or modifications being applied to the document. The mandatory PCR test submitted to the Egyptian authorities must contain the date and time of collection of the biological sample and be translated into English or Arabic.

Children under the age of 6 are exempted from taking a PCR test upon entering the territory of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Romanians are exempt from obtaining a visa

Upon arrival at the airports of Marsa Matrouh, Hurghada (Red Sea Governorate), Sharm El Sheikh (South Sinai Governorate), Luxor and Aswan, tourists are exempt from obtaining an entry visa into Egyptian territory (until April 30, 2021).

Romanian citizens arriving directly at Cairo airport need an entry visa, which is obtained from the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Bucharest or directly from the border authorities at the airport.

Social distance is respected

In the designated hotels (only with the occupation of 50% of the capacity) special protection measures will be taken, and in case of detecting a case of COVID-19, the person will be quarantined in specially arranged rooms in the hotel, and in case of worsening symptoms be hospitalized (a situation that will generate special treatment conditions and return to the country at the expense of the tourist).

You should also know that the mask is mandatory in public places. Recreational areas, public beaches and parks remain closed. All tourism activities in Egypt will take place at a capacity of 50%. All means of transport for tourists will operate at a capacity of 50%, respecting the social distance; for the category of limousine type cars, a capacity of maximum 2 people is provided.

Starting with September 1, 2020, all museums and archeological sites will receive local and foreign tourists. Disinfection operations will be carried out with the public before the start of the program. Groups of tourists up to 25 people are accepted.

Tour guides are required to wear protective masks and use audio means of communication (which will be disinfected after use). Tourist companies are obliged to provide tourists and drivers with protective masks. At the entrance to the tourist objectives, the body temperature is taken, including the employees. It is necessary to respect the social distance of at least one meter.
