Travel conditions in Lithuania: test with negative result for SARS-CoV-2 virus infection and isolation

Starting with November 7, 2020, at 00:00, the quarantine status was established on the entire territory of the state, until March 31, 2021, at 00:00.

In the context of the emergence of new strains of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, Lithuania has tightened conditions for entry into the national territory. Thus, the list of states affected by the COVID-19 pandemic published by the Lithuanian government on its website: includes both the states in which the new strains have been identified and the EU Member States included in the red category, according to information published by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control:

Test with negative result for COVID-19

From 10.03.2021, all passengers arriving in Lithuania by authorized means of commercial transport (on international routes, organized and operated by carriers as regular, special or charter services, by any means of transport) must present a translated document in Lithuanian, English or Russian, which certifies the negative result of a test for SARS-CoV-2 virus infection, performed up to 72 hours before arrival. 

People traveling to Lithuania on their own means of transport must test negative for a SARS-CoV-2 virus infection or be tested on arrival in that state within 24 hours.

According to the decision of the Lithuanian government, serological tests for antibodies are no longer accepted upon entering the territory of this state.

In addition to this measure, persons arriving in the Republic of Lithuania must isolate themselves for a period of 10 days, with the possibility of suspending the measure after a period of 7 days if they perform a test for SARS-CoV-2 virus infection from 7 a day, the result of which is negative, and the person in question has no symptoms of a respiratory infection (fever, cough, difficulty breathing).

At the same time, all persons entering the Republic of Lithuania must complete the form on the website of the Lithuanian National Center for Public Health (NPHC). and present the confirmation received - QR code - at the time of embarkation. Individuals traveling individually by road must register electronically at the National Center for Public Health - NPHC, within 12 hours of arrival in this state.


The restrictions do not apply in the event of transit through the territory of the Republic of Lithuania.


Crew members of companies involved in international commercial transport (including road) are exempted from self-isolation and testing measures.

Persons who have been confirmed with SARS-CoV-2 virus infection in the last 90 days prior to entry into the Republic of Lithuania or who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 are exempted from the test and self-isolation measure, provided that a medical certificate is presented. (in Lithuanian, English or Russian) from which to show this aspect.

Self-insulation measure:

People arriving from states where SARS-CoV-2 strains have been identified with an accelerated spread are subject to stricter isolation conditions. Thus, the persons concerned cannot leave the place of isolation unless they need urgent medical attention and have to go to a medical unit or to a mobile testing point.

Persons subject to the isolation measure may attend funeral ceremonies for close relatives, change the location of the isolation, or travel for medical visits, with the permission of the National Center for Public Health (NPHC).

People arriving from countries where the spread of new strains of SARS-CoV-2 virus is accelerating should self-isolate in a separate dwelling / room.

Self-isolation in the same space is only allowed for people who have traveled together, except for children, who will be allowed to stay with family members for the entire period of self-isolation.

People arriving from other states affected by the COVID-19 pandemic can leave the location where they perform self-isolation and can travel within a radius of 1 km around it without NPHC notification. Also, the persons in question can isolate themselves in the same apartment with the family members who have not traveled abroad, in a separate room, being necessary to limit the contact with the other persons in the dwelling.
