Uep Airways will make its debut in the Balearic Islands with inter-island flights that will be operated with ATR 72 aircraft, equipped with a special turbofan manufactured in France for low-density regional traffic flows.

The new airline will be a subsidiary of Swiftair and was founded by Salvador Moreno, a former Harrier pilot, who will launch the project in the spring of this year, taking into account the competition it will have with Iberia's subsidiary, Air Nostrum (Iberia Regional).

The company also intends to operate flights to mainland Spain in the near future, depending on how the market evolves.

Uep Airways will start operations between Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza with three ATR 72 aircraft, flights that are currently operated by SwiftAir.

SwiftAir previously covered the same routes for Air Europa under the ACMI-based rental scheme (aircraft rental, crews, aircraft maintenance and insurance). The same goes for Globalia, which connects Malaga, Melilla, Asturias, Seville, Valencia and Alicante with Madrid, but also Valencia and Alicante with Palma de Mallorca.

According to the Spanish publication El Paisthe Spanish government hopes that 2021 will be the year in which the economy recovers. The administration is well aware that one of the main pillars of the economy, tourism, will fight to return to a kind of normalcy this year, given the coronavirus pandemic.
