The history British Airways It starts somewhere in 1919, but the name has undergone some changes all this time to its present form. For these reasons, British Airways did not enter top 5 the oldest airlines in the world.
On the occasion of 100's anniversary, British Airways will paint a Boeing 747 in retro livery BOAC (British Overseas Airways Corporation).
The BOAC livery, which was used between 1964 and 1974, will cover the aircraft Boeing 747-400 British Airways (reg. G-BYGC). The plane will be painted in Dublin, due to arrive in London on 18 February 2019.
The moment will coincide with the anniversary of 50 years after the first flight operated by a Boeing 747, which took place on 9 February 1969.
Retro livery BOAC
British Airways is proud of its past and wants to introduce it to passengers. The BOAC livery also debuted on a Boeing 747, which shows that British Airways did not randomly choose this model.
The BOAC retro livery will remain on the aircraft until its withdrawal from the operational service, scheduled for 2023. Gradually, British Airways will withdraw the 747 aircraft from operational service, their seats being taken over by the new A350 and 787 Dreamliner.
In the coming 4 years, British Airways will receive 18 A350 and 12 x Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, as well as 26 single-aisle aircraft for short and medium flights. It's an investment of 6.5 billion pounds.
