United Airlines resumed flights to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) after a 5-year hiatus.

United Airlines returned to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York for the first time in almost 5 years. With this return, five weekly flights to Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO) were launched. The frequency of flights to LAX and SFO will be doubled, starting in May.

The flights will operate with Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, which can carry almost 170 passengers: 46 seats in Business Class, 22 seats in Premium Plus Economy, 47 seats in Extra Economy and 52 seats in Economy. Thus, the airline operates flights from all three major airports in New York: JFK, LaGuardia (LGA) and Newark (EWR).

United Airlines decided not to operate any more flights from JFK Airport in New York in October 2015, considering that the profit it obtained during 2008-2015 was insufficient. In 2015, United operated 6 daily flights to Los Angeles and 7 to San Francisco from JFK International Airport. By moving these flights to Newark, United said it could better serve customers on the west coast with connections to Europe.

The first United Airlines flight to take off from JFK Airport was destined for San Francisco. He left around 17:30 p.m., local time. The second flight was destined for Los Angeles and took off from JFK immediately after 19:00 local time.

The operating schedule of airlines in New York State decreased by 56% in April, compared to the same month in 2019, according to Airlines for America (industrial group representing the largest American carriers). The national average is down 32%. This makes it easier for airlines to add new services or identify new opportunities.

The four major airlines in the country have focused their operations on the largest airports in recent years. This means that United, American Airlines, Delta Airlines and Southwest Airlines often do not compete at major US airports.
