Unvaccinated people can travel to Spain including on the basis of a negative COVID test

Although Spain has relaxed some of its restrictions on COVID-19, it continues to maintain entry rules based on the country of origin of the passengers.

According to Spain's official travel website, travelers from the European Union / Schengen Area and those from safe third countries are subject to less stringent rules when arriving in Spain.

The Spanish authorities mentioned that those traveling from EU countries / Schengen Area can enter Spain on the basis of a COVID-19 digital certificate obtained on the basis of vaccination, recovery from illness or on the basis of a test against COVID.

"If you are coming from a country at risk of COVID-19, you must present a certificate or document attesting to vaccination, the diagnostic test for active infection or recovery from COVID-19", is stated in the statement of the Spanish authorities.

Spain accepts recovery certificates provided that the document proves that the holder has been cured of the virus in the last 180 days.

Regarding the COVID-19 test, Spain accepts fast PCR and antigen tests. The PCR test must be performed within 72 hours and the rapid antigen test must be performed no later than 24 hours before arrival in Spain for it to be considered valid.

Passengers from safe third countries are exempt from the entry rules, which means that even those who have not been vaccinated or recovered from the virus, as well as those who have not been tested recently, are allowed to enter Spain. Spain's list of safe third countries is updated weekly and currently includes China (including Hong Kong and Macao), Colombia, Indonesia, Kuwait, Peru, Qatar, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Taiwan.

Travelers from safe EU countries / Schengen Day are also exempt from all entry rules. However, Spain's safe list does not currently include any EU countries. All EU / Schengen countries will remain on the risk list until the end of this week.
