Boeing 747-400 (VH-OJA) Qantas landed well at Illawarra. It was the last flight of this plane. It was a memorable landing and will go down in aviation history. Boeing 747-400 (VH-OJA) enjoys two records: one on the longest flight operated by a jumbo jet - London - Sydney in 20 hours, 9 minutes and 5 seconds and one on the shortest operated by a 747 - Sydney - Illawarra in about 15 minutes.

There were many days of preparation for this flight, a well elaborated plan, the pilots practiced in the simulator approximately 25 hours, and the end is a happy one and it was worth all this effort. The aircraft will be exhibited at the Museum of Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS).

The merit of this flight belongs entirely to the pilots: Greg Matthews (Commander / Manager training & checking B747 - 15 flight hours), Peter Hagley (Technical pilot B506 - 747 flight hours), Michael East (9892 flight hours) and Ossie Miller (commander - 10 flight hours). Congratulations!

We are happy to witness unique moments, worthy of the aviation history book. We kept you updated on the evolution of the flight on our fan page AirlinesTravel (a like if you like and want to keep up to date with hot topics in aviation).
