Virgin Atlantic, the London-based British operator Heathrow, has decided to suspend the route London Heathrow - Nairobi, Kenya. The London Heathrow - Jomo Kenyatta International route was launched in June 2007.

During this time, Virgin Atlantic fought with British Airways (BA) and Kenya Airways to maintain the profitable route, but the match was lost and the route will be suspended from September 26 to 2012. Although it has managed to win a significant number of passengers, of the approximately 310 000 that travel annually on this route, Virgin Atlantic was unable to maintain the profitable route at the prices charged.

It seems that the decision was influenced by the price of fuel, the new taxes applied in the UK, but also by the number of passengers in decline.
