Wizz Air, the fastest growing and most sustainable ultra-low-cost airline in Europe, is celebrating an impressive level of passengers in June, carrying a record 4,34 million passengers in the first month of summer. This represents an increase of 179% compared to June 2021. In Romania, the increase was 143% compared to June 2021.

In the last 12 months, Wizz Air has repeatedly expanded its network, adding 200 new routes to 126 destinations in Europe and beyond. Now, the airline operates over 1000 routes in its network, to more than 190 destinations.

To support this continued growth, Wizz Air has accepted the delivery of 27 ultra-modern and efficient Airbus aircraft in the last year. Using the latest technologies in the field, Wizz Air's Airbus fleet of aircraft is a key element in the airline's sustainability strategy, supporting its objectives of reducing CO2 by 25% / passenger / kilometer by 2030. This year, Wizz Air also signed an Airbus Memorandum of Understanding to explore the potential of hydrogen-powered aircraft operations.

The firm order with Airbus supports Wizz Air's goal of becoming a group of 500 aircraft by the end of this decade. The current order consists of 13 A320neo aircraft, 255 A321neo aircraft and 47 A321XLR aircraft, but also the additional order for 15 A321neo aircraft and the purchase rights for 75 A321neo aircraft, thus representing a total of 411 aircraft.

The constant recruitment and expansion of the aircraft fleet within the WIZZ network both supported operations in Romania, with a significant increase in June 2022, compared to the same month last year and the period before the pandemic. In June 2022, more than 770.000 passengers traveled with Wizz Air to and from Romanian airports, the largest monthly number of WIZZ passengers reached since the airline began operations in the country, exceeding the 752.000 passengers transported in June 2019. Compared to June 2021, there was an increase of 143% in terms of passengers transported in June this year from airports in Romania.
