Wizz Air continues the lawsuit against the Romanian national airline Tarom. Wizz Air is ready to take over the airline if it goes bankrupt, said Owain Jones, Wizz Air Chief Supply Chain & Legal Officer.

right daily.hu, Tarom is waiting for subsidies of almost 90 million euros. Despite receiving €56 million in government support over two years, Tarom is still in a critical situation. In recent days, the Minister of Transport, Sorin Grindeanu, also admitted that TAROM is facing financial difficulties. If the court were to force the company to repay the previously received state subsidies, it would mean the bankruptcy of the TAROM company.

Wizz Air continues the process after the Court of Justice of the European Union declared legal the state aid of 36,6 million euros granted to the company Tarom in 2021. As magyarnemzet.hu writes, the appeal of the Hungarian low-cost airline is based on the fact that Wizz Air's lawyers found that the EU body's reasoning was wrong.

Owain Jones said Wizz Air is ready to take over Tarom should the airline cease operations, as it did with Malév. However, they would only pick up certain flights. At the same time, Owain Jones noted that, for now, they are expanding their capabilities to holiday and Western European destinations. Tarom and Wizz Air fly a total of 13 common routes. But TAROM also flies to Amman, Amsterdam, Beirut, Belgrade, Hamburg, Istanbul, Munich, Sofia, Prague and Vienna.
