Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air is in talks with Airbus (AIR.PA) over the purchase of at least 100 aircraft, according to industry sources. The talks started a few months ago and came to light after Wizz Air wanted to buy rival easyJet (EZJ.L).

Analysts say all three major European budget airlines will expand as the COVID-19 crisis further destroys the finances of domestic carriers.

Talks between Wizz Air and Airbus have continued over the summer, but the two sides are not yet ready to announce an agreement, sources said. Discussions about buying planes can take several months. The transaction would involve at least 100 aircraft, said one source.

Wizz Air, which has already ordered a total of 388 Airbus aircraft, declined to comment. An Airbus spokesman said he always talks to customers about their needs, but never comments on such discussions.
