Wizz Air celebrates 20 years since the operation of the first flight!

Wizz Air, the largest airline in Romania, is celebrating 20 years since its first flight. The company was founded in 2003, but started carrying passengers on May 19, 2004. The first flight took off on May 19, 2004, from Katowice.

Currently, Wizz Air offers over 600 routes and has 25 operational bases in the region: Vienna in Austria; Tuzla in Bosnia and Herzegovina; Sofia and Varna in Bulgaria; Kutaisi in Georgia; Budapest and Debrecen in Hungary; Riga in Latvia; Vilnius in Lithuania; Skopje in North Macedonia; Chisinau in Moldova; Katowice, Warsaw, Gdansk, Poznan and Wroclaw in Poland; Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Craiova, Iasi, Sibiu and Timișoara in Romania; Belgrade in Serbia; London Luton in the United Kingdom; Kyiv in Ukraine.

Wizz Air has been flying for 20 years

It has a fleet of more than 200 modern Airbus aircraft from the A320ceo / A320neo family, of which 118 aircraft are A321neo with a capacity of 239 passengers. The Wizz Air Group also owns the subsidiaries: Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, Wizz Air Malta and Wizz Air UK. It flies to around 200 destinations.

In Romania, Wizz Air entered in 2006, and today it flies from Bacau, Brașov, Bucharest, Cluj, Constanta, Craiova, Iași, Satu Mare, Sibiu, Suceava, Târgu Mureș, Timișoara.

In 2023, the airline completed 99,31% of its scheduled flights, which is the third best result among all European airlines and well above the industry average. Also, Wizz Air ranked in the top three airlines in Europe according to the share of flights operated on time.

Wizz Air is the main airline in Romania, preferred by approximately 85 million passengers since the beginning of operations in 2006. Wizz Air carried more than 13 million passengers in 2023. The airline operates from six bases in Romania: BucureştiCraiovaTimisoaraIaşiSibiu and Cluj-Napoca. Wizz Air operated approximately 66 flights from / to Romania, in 2023!

In 2024, Wizz Air continues to expand. It has orders placed for more than 330 aircraft, and at the operational network level, dozens of new routes will be opened this year. Here we mention the routes: Bucharest – Izmir with Wizz Air, from June 17, 2024; Bucharest - Salzburg; Bucharest – Leipzig with Wizz Air!
