Wizz Air successfully completed Sunday, 25 March 2012, the transfer of operations from Baneasa Airport on Henri Coanda Airport (Otopeni). The company announced the move just a month ago, immediately after receiving official information about the closure of Baneasa Airport for commercial air traffic.
Wizz Air 3001 flight departed from Otopeni in time, on March 25, early in the morning, to London Luton, being the first flight operated from the new base. Operations continued on time throughout the day with 15 flights (segments) transporting passengers to the most popular leisure or business destinations in Western Europe. Wizz Air transported about 5.000 passengers to and from Bucharest on Sunday.
With a more flexible flight schedule on Otopeni, Wizz Air has introduced a more advantageous departure schedule for passengers, from Bucharest to the Spanish destinations Valencia, Barcelona, Madrid and Alicante. The company recently announced that flights to Memmingen (Germany), Verona (Italy) and Palma de Mallorca (Spain) have been added to the list of destinations served on Otopeni. Wizz Air operates weekly 123 flights from Bucharest (segments) to 24 from Western European destinations.
