Wizz Air will cancel the routes Bucharest - Budapest, Bucharest - Athens, Cluj - Athens and Iasi - Malmo
Wizz Air adjusted the winter schedule 2018-2019, giving up several routes departing from the bases in Romania.
We continue the series of articles announcing changes made by Wizz Air in the winter time 2018-2019. I first transmitted the information that Wizz Air will abandon the Bucharest - Cluj route starting October 27. I also notified you elimination of the Bucharest - Lisbon and Bucharest Kutaisi routes from the winter schedule.
Routes canceled by Wizz Air
Today we announce the cancellation / suspension of other routes in the Wizz Air schedule. Starting with September 16, Wizz Air will no longer fly on the route Iasi - Malmo. The route was inaugurated on 7 July 2018. However, most likely for commercial reasons, the flights will be stopped. Wizz Air currently operates 3 weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays.
Starting with the 2018-2019 winter schedule, Wizz Air will suspend operations on routes Bucharest - Athens and Cluj - Athens. The routes were inaugurated on 25 March 2018. To begin with, daily flights were operated.
Currently, only 5 weekly flights are operated, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays, on the Bucharest - Athens route. On the Cluj - Athens route, 2 weekly flights are operated. They may only be temporarily suspended during the winter hours and resumed during the 2019 summer schedule.
A surprise of the suspended / canceled routes is Bucharest - Budapest. The flights were resumed on 19 September 2016. Currently, 4 flights are operated weekly, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Sundays. However, according to the Wizz Air reservation system, the last flight will be operated on 26 October 2018. With little luck, flights will resume in the 2019 summer schedule.
As we have mentioned on other occasions, the Romanian market is maturing. Airlines are starting to adjust their operating schedule in relation to profitability. It is not excluded to see other routes suspended, changes in the frequencies of flight on certain routes and even new routes with higher potential.
If you also find operational changes to Wizz Air, please let us know in a comment and we'll check the information.
