We are optimistic about the evolution of aviation in 2021. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, which will be maintained this year, more and more airlines are announcing new routes, expansion plans and tourist offers for the summer holidays.

Wizz Air, one of the largest low-cost airlines in Europe, maintains the strategy of the past years and announces an avalanche of new routes, but also more frequencies on existing routes. According to OAG, a global travel data provider based in the UK, Wizz Air has already announced the launch of 122 new routes, of which 16 are from / to Romania.

Wizz Air has expanded its operating network with new bases at the airports: Abu Dhabi, Bacau, Doncaster Sheffield, Dortmund, Larnaca, London Gatwick, Lviv, Milan Malpensa, Oslo Gadermoen, Saint Petesburg and Tirana (the base). In 2021, it will operate flights to new airports Almaty, Ancona, Cardiff, Chania, Dalaman, Genoa, Pescara, Preveza, Sharm El Sheikh, Skellefteå, Burgas (the base), Sarajevo (base) and Palermo (the base).

We mention that not all the routes announced for this summer are new, some of them being operated before the COVID-19 pandemic, others being announced in 2020, but postponed due to travel restrictions. Overall, according to the Wizz Air reservation system, in the summer season 2021 there will be 122 new routes with flights starting March 25.

Wizz Air will operate 16 new routes from / to Romania

Including from / to the airports in Romania, Wizz Air announced new routes and reintroduced for sale plane tickets to various destinations to which it did not fly in the summer of 2020 and the winter season 2020-2021.

From the region of Moldova, Wizz Air will open 3 new routes. From April 28, Wizz Air will operate 2 weekly flights, on Wednesdays and Sundays, on the route Bacau - Rome Fiumicino. From April 27, it will operate 2 weekly flights, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, on the route Suceava - Rome Ciampino. From June 13, Wizz Air will fly on the route Iasi - Santorini, on Wednesdays and Sundays.

A few more new routes will be opened from / to Cluj. From April 28, Wizz Air will start flying the route Cluj - Hamburg, and from May 31 there will be flights Cluj - Karlsruhe / Baden-Baden. From June, Wizz Air will inaugurate the route Cluj-Napoca - Cologne, more precisely from June 3. From June 11 it will start flights to Mykonos, and from June 12 it will fly on the route Zakynthos - Cluj. From April 26, Wizz Air will fly the route Venice - Cluj

New routes will also be operated from Bucharest, especially to the United Arab Emirates and Greece. Occasionally it will fly on the route Bucharest - Skopje, during the European Football Championship. Returning to the new routes, we mention here flights from Bucharest to Dubai; Bucharest - Corfu and Bucharest - Zakynthos.

The operational program may change depending on the travel restrictions imposed by the authorities, depending on the occupancy rate of the aircraft and the new opportunities that will appear during this year.
