The inauguration of the bridge took place on the day that Turkey celebrated the naval victory of the Ottoman forces on March 18, 1915 over the Allies in the Battle of the Dardanelles (also known as the Battle of Gallipoli).

The work, which cost a total of 2,5 billion euros, is in addition to three other bridges in Istanbul that connect the two continents and will connect East Thrace to Anatolia, bypassing Istanbul.
