The tradition of bringing the Holy Light from Jerusalem, inaugurated by Father Patriarch Daniel in 2009, continues this year. A delegation of the Romanian Patriarchate will bring the Light from the Holy Land on Saturday, April 15. Later, from Otopeni, the Holy Light will travel throughout the country.

"The Holy Light will be brought from Jerusalem on the evening of Saturday, April 15, 2023by Father Archimandrite Teofil Anăstăsoaie, the Superior of the Settlements of the Romanian Patriarchate at the Holy Places, and will be offered, as always, to the delegates of the dioceses of the Romanian Patriarchate present at the Otopeni International Airport", announces the Romanian Patriarchate.

The Church of the Holy Sepulcher, also known as the Church of the Holy Resurrection, is in the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. It has been recognized since the beginning of the Byzantine era. Today, this historic monument is identified as the site of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and is one of the world's leading pilgrimage destinations.

The Holy Light is considered by Orthodox Christians to be a miracle that happens every year at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, on Holy Saturday, the day before Orthodox Easter. Many consider it the oldest attested annual miracle of the Christian world.

The Holy Light is lit on the Tomb of our Lord Jesus Christ on Holy Saturday, after 12.30:XNUMX p.m., during the Vespers service. The descent of the Holy Light is a divine miracle beyond our understanding, which takes place every year on Holy Saturday.
