WHO updates "List of countries for which polio vaccination is required"

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs the Romanian citizens that the World Health Organization (WHO) - IHR Emergency Committee (International Heath Regulation) has decided to extend the measure of extension of the State of Public Health Emergency of International Importance - USPII, following the recent evaluation the danger of spreading wild polio virus and / or vaccine-derived virus.

Following the risk assessment, which takes into account the travel area, the length of stay, the activities carried out and the vaccination history, the list of countries for which polio vaccination is required, so: Afghanistan, Pakistan, Malaysia, Philippines and Yemen.

Vaccination will be done 4 weeks before the trip

For citizens who have not been vaccinated against polio in the last 12 months, the vaccination will be done 4 weeks before the trip or, in case of emergency, even before it.

Vaccination will be notified on the international vaccination certificate (according to the International Health Regulations 2005) and will accompany the travel documents.

People who intend to plan a trip may not have the right to leave the territory of these countries, regardless of the border crossing point (road, sea, air), without the documents certifying the polio vaccination.

Otherwise, the border authorities of these countries have the right to prohibit leaving the territory. In order to avoid these situations, the citizens of the respective countries, who will travel to Romania, will be asked for the international vaccination card, in which the vaccination is registered.

Vaccination is recommended those traveling to and from: Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Ivory Coast. Guinea, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Togo and Zambia.

Specialists in public health structures, in the field of implementation of the International Health Regulations - 2005, reiterate that the spread of polio-viruses (polio viruses) internationally is still a risk and WHO regularly updates "List of countries for which polio vaccination is required”, After receiving the reports from the respective countries.
