Robots could take the place of pilots at the controls of airplanes, with the help of artificial intelligence. South Korean researchers have developed a humanoid robot capable of taking off, flying and landing a plane by itself.

The robot, named PIVOT, stores all technical details of flights as well as aeronautical charts, and will be used especially in emergency situations. Its purpose is to make the work of pilots easier precisely when stress or panic can affect decision-making.

The robot also has memorized all the aviation maps in the world, which makes the work of pilots enormously easier when they have to manage emergency landings at unfamiliar airports. The South Koreans want to officially launch this product in less than three years.
