The two airports that serve the Capital - Henri Coandă International Airport Bucharest and Bucharest Băneasa - Aurel Vlaicu International Airport, both managed by the Bucharest Airports National Company (CNAB), are prepared to operate on separate Schengen / non-Schengen flows.

CNAB took all the necessary measures in time for the infrastructure to ensure operation without non-conformities and in collaboration with the competent institutions, especially with the General Inspectorate of the Border Police, prepared the specific procedures.

We mention that, out of the total international traffic, two thirds of the passengers travel to or from destinations located in the Schengen area and, with Romania's entry into the free movement area, these passengers will no longer have to go through the border control counters, following to be relocated.

The passenger flows are ready for operation, and the control counters for non-Schengen flows, both for exiting the country and for entry, are already placed in positions and connected to the IT network. Preparations have been completed since the end of 2022, and only the unfavorable decision of the JAI Council made them not go into operation then.

We specify that a large part of the terminal infrastructure at Henri Coandă airport - it is the one put into operation in 2011 and 2012 - was designed for use in the Schengen / non-Schengen system and, in the period since then, CNAB has had to make special efforts to ensure the processing of a passenger traffic that, in the last 11 years, has doubled.
