A new hotel in Indonesia is running for the title of "world's thinnest". But its creator says that the project is not only an attempt to set a world record, but also to draw international attention to the small town where it is built, reports CNN.

Ary Indra grew up in Salatiga, Central Java. After training as an architect and pursuing a career in Jakarta and Singapore, he felt called to return home to Salatiga and put his architectural skills to good use.

He bought an unwanted piece of land that no one was willing to capitalize on because of its odd dimensions. It is now home to PituRooms, a seven-room hotel (Pitu means "seven" in Javanese) measuring just 2,8 meters wide.

The building has five floors and each of the seven rooms has the necessary dimensions for a double bed and a small bathroom with shower and toilet. Each room offers a different experience thanks to the unique artwork and interiors.

Salatiga is 300 miles southeast of Jakarta and largely unknown to foreigners heading to Yogyakarta, Surabaya or the island of Bali. The town lies at the foot of Mount Merbabu, which PituRooms guests can see from their hotel rooms.
