The French authorities have decided to tighten entry rules for all passengers in the UK in order to prevent the spread of the Omicron variant. In a press release issued on December 16, France announced that it was closing its borders to tourists in the UK, a measure that will take effect on December 18. British citizens can only enter France if they are traveling for an absolutely essential purpose.

The obligation to provide a compelling reason applies to all Britons, including those who have been fully vaccinated or recovered from COVID-19 disease.

In addition, the same revealed that all persons arriving in France from the United Kingdom will be required to report a negative result of the PCR or rapid antigen test performed 24 hours before arrival, suggesting that the tests performed between 24 and 48 hours are no longer accepted.

Moreover, once in France, travelers from the UK will have to go into self-isolation. However, it was explained that the quarantine period may end after 48 hours if the passengers give a negative test result.

In addition to the rules of testing and self-isolation, travelers from the UK are also required to register their entry before the trip. In this way, the authorities are provided with all the necessary data.

On the other hand, French nationals, as well as other persons who are legally resident in France, may enter France without a substantive reason. However, they must follow the other rules.
