On June 20, 2023, airport workers in Italy will go on strike for 24 hours. With three of the country's largest transport workers' unions involved in the strike, the protest is expected to cause disruption at all major airports in Italy, particularly at check-in desks and baggage claim areas.

The unions launched the strike while in negotiations for wage increases in line with inflation, a contractual holiday allowance and a general improvement in working conditions for both ground and air transport staff.

Staff at airports in Italy, including Rome Fiumicino and Milan Malpensa, were scheduled to strike for 24 hours, alongside workers at low-cost airline Vueling. Alitalia's successor ITA Airways said on Monday it had already canceled 42 domestic flights.

It is estimated that on June 20 there will be over 3000 flights scheduled from/to Italian airports, and the strike will affect many of these. According to Italian law, flights scheduled to depart between 7-10 am and 18-21 pm are protected from the strike. Passengers flying to or from Italian airports on Tuesday are advised to check the status of their flight with the operator.
