Hi Fly has announced a new mission to Antarctica involving a flight with Airbus A340 9H-TQZ. The aircraft flew from Cape Town to Wolf's Fang Runway and back. It was a 2.500 mile trip with a flying time of just over five hours each way.

According to the Portuguese airline, the aircraft will be used this season to transport a small number of tourists, along with scientists and essential goods for the White Continent.

It should be noted that in November 2021, Hi Fly made history by landing an Airbus A340 in Antarctica. Never before has an A340 landed on the Antarctic ice runway.

The 2021 mission

In the first mission, the aircraft involved was the A340-30 9H-SOL, an aircraft with a maximum take-off weight of 275 tonnes. Highly reliable, comfortable and with an excellent safety record, the aircraft has been carefully chosen to perform well in this extreme environment.
