Pilots at low-cost airline Eurowings will go on strike on October 6 for 24 hours after negotiations with management failed.
The union Vereinigung Cockpit ( VC ) announced a 24-hour strike for October 6, 2022, explaining in a press release that it is “a the tenth round of negotiations".
Eurowings, which is due to publish this afternoon the strike's impact on its flight schedule, announced that "only flights Eurowings Germany are affected by the strike, not those of Eurowings Europe ". The company makes every effort to limit as much as possible the impact of strike measures on passengers, since 50% of its flights should be operated.
Marcel Gröls, chairman of the VC, says it is “open to discussions on how to achieve reasonable working hours for Eurowings employees in the long term ". But he adds:So far, however, it was not possible to agree on a common denominator with the employer. It is not enough to sit at the negotiating table, you must also be ready to find a solution".
The spokesman of the union, Matthias Baier, recalls, for his part, that the workload of the pilots "has grown considerably" since the beginning of the health crisis, Eurowings "regularly imposing the work schedule of colleagues to the authorized maximum, which cannot be permanent. "
