Even though it has been announced since 2020, the railway connection between the city of Brașov and the Brașov International Airport was included for the last hundred meters in the investment list of CFR SA (the company that manages the railway infrastructure).
More precisely, the Brașov County Council announced that on December 28, 2023, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure issued an order to update the annex of projects analyzed, approved and proposed for implementation by the National Railway Company "C.F.R." SA, including the construction of the railway connection with the Braşov-Ghimbav International Airport, informs brasovmetropolitan.ro.
According to the explanations of the Brașov County Council, the ministerial document mandates the National Company "C.F.R." SA to form the partnership with UAT Braşov County - through the Braşov County Council and to conclude the protocol regarding the implementation of the project.
The project envisages the realization of a variant of connecting the AIBG to the existing railway network in the area, with a double electrified line, centralized in the Ghimbav station, with a direct connection to the 200 highway in the direction of Codlea (Sibiu), with a two-line station located in the immediate vicinity of the AIBG terminal and a line for the cargo area. The estimated value of the project is 148,62 million euros (without VAT).
