US confirms European vaccinated COVID-19 vaccine eligible to enter the country from 8 November

European citizens who have been vaccinated with two different doses of COVID-19 vaccines are considered fully vaccinated and are therefore eligible to enter the United States from 8 November.

On Friday night, immediately after the US announced the date when it will open its borders for vaccinations in Europe, a CDC spokesman confirmed that all travelers vaccinated with vaccines approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or the World Health Organization Health (WHO) would be eligible to enter the US on November 8. He also confirmed that those vaccinated with mixed vaccines are recognized as being fully vaccinated against the virus.

" While the CDC has not recommended mixing vaccine types in a primary series, we recognize that this is becoming more common in other countries, so it should be accepted for the interpretation of vaccine dossiers.", Said the CDC spokesman.

Currently, the only vaccines authorized by the US for use against COVID-19 are Moderna, Pfizer and Janssen. The WHO, on the other hand, approved Pfizer / BioNTech, AstraZeneca (including Covishield), Janssen, Moderna, Sinopharm and Sinovac.

In the EU, but also in other countries, such as Canada, many have been vaccinated for the first time with AstraZeneca, then with Pfizer. The question of whether mixed vaccines will be accepted by the US has been widely discussed among travelers and officials since the US warned it would lift the entry ban for those vaccinated in early November.

The decision was welcomed by many, especially Europeans, many of whom were vaccinated with the first dose of AstraZeneca and the second dose of Pfizer, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

By the end of September, EU nationals vaccinated with mixed doses also faced the same problem when traveling to the UK, as the latter did not recognize mixed-dose vaccination as a complete vaccination against COVID-19. . However, on 22 September, the UK Department for Transport and the Department of Health and Social Welfare announced that mixtures of two different types of vaccines would be accepted as valid proof of vaccination when traveling to the UK.
