Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said that Russia plans to sell up to 1000 of MC-21 passenger aircraft over the next 20 for years. He mentioned that there are several airlines, including Lufthansa, interested in this aircraft designed for medium flights and with a carrying capacity of up to 212 passengers.

"Irkut plans to sell up to 1.000 MC-21s in the next 20 years, and we already have 175 firm orders," Rogozin said during a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

In November 2014, Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov said that the first MC-21 aircraft will be built by the end of 2015. Irkut MC-21 will be manufactured in 3 dimensions (MC 21-200 / 21-300 - 21-400), with transport capacities between 150 and 212 passengers. Most parts will be built in Russia, including engines.

In August 2014, Dmitri Rogozin declared that the first 3 aircraft in the MC-21 family will be powered by external engines produced outside Russia. Following that, starting with the 4 will be equipped with Aviadvigatel PD-14 engines. He also said that Russia plans to build long and long-haul aircraft, a market currently dominated by Airbus and Boeing.

The plan is optimistic, but exaggerated given that no MC-21 operational unit has been built. But as hope dies last, it remains to be seen what we will fly with in the next 20 years.
