Due to severe turbulence, 11 passengers and crew members on Delta Air Lines flight DL175, Milan Malpensa - Atlanta, were transported to the hospital. The incident took place on Tuesday, August 29. Shortly after the Airbus A350-900 (registered N576DZ) landed safely, emergency services rushed to the plane.

The aircraft was carrying 151 passengers and 14 crew members and was located about 40 miles northeast of Atlanta when it passed through an area of severe turbulence.

Both Delta Air Lines and air traffic control reported that this incident was not due to impending Hurricane Idalia, which is currently in the southeastern United States.

Climate experts have already determined that so-called severe turbulence is becoming more frequent due to climate change. This turbulent movement of air masses is more difficult to predict due to the absence of any visual cues such as clouds, and is caused when air currents moving at very high speeds meet.
