Air Serbia announced today that it will launch service to Chicago starting in 2023, marking the carrier's second route to the United States. Starting in spring 2023, Air Serbia will launch non-stop flights between Belgrade (BEG) and Chicago (ORD):
- The route will operate twice a week from 17 May 2023 (Wednesday and Saturday)
- The route will operate 3 times a week from 12 June 2023 (Monday, Wednesday and Saturday)
The duration of a flight will be 11 hours to the USA and approximately 10 hours to Serbia. Flights are already on sale.
For the first time in the last 32 years that there will be a non-stop flight between the two cities. Chicago has approximately 350.000 residents of Serbian origin and a large number of residents from other countries of the former Yugoslavia as well as neighboring Balkan countries.
Currently, Air Serbia's only destination in the United States is New York (JFK), and the airline has continuously operated that route for about six years. Then, from December 2022, Air Serbia will launch a new route between Belgrade and Tianjin, China (TSN). Chicago will be Air Serbia's third long-haul destination.
Long-haul flights are operated with Airbus A330 aircraft, with Air Serbia already having 2 such aircraft in its fleet. It's great to see that Air Serbia is expanding, as this company is adding new routes from Belgrade, making the airport a major hub in the region.
