Year 2017 was an important year for the Sibiu International Airport, but also for the Siberian and regional community. On 21 December 2017, for the first time since the opening of the airport for passenger air traffic, was registered the passenger with the number 500.000.

500 000 passenger threshold

The 500 000 passenger was Andreea T., who arrived from Memmingen, at the local time 16: 55, with a
flight operated by Wizz Air.

The passenger was greeted and awarded by representatives of the Sibiu County Council and the airport. He received a travel bag offered by the airport partner SC Art & Craft Design SRL, promotional materials, a parking pass valid for one year and an anniversary plaque. Andreea was pleasantly surprised by the welcome she received when she arrived home.

Sibiu International Airport

At the same time, in December this year, five new routes were announced: Brussels Charleroi - Belgium, Copenhagen - Denmark, Basel - Switzerland, Paris Beauvais - France and Frankfurt Hahn - Germany.

Direct flights will start operating from June 2018. Thus, the network of routes offered by the Siberian airport will expand to 14 destinations in 9 countries. The new routes will be operated by Wizz Air, which will allocate the second aircraft to the base in Sibiu.

Currently, direct flights to nine destinations are operating at the airport in Sibiu: Milan, Madrid, London, Dortmund, Memmingen, Nuremberg, Stuttgart, Munich and Vienna.

We expect the 500 000 passenger threshold to be exceeded in 2018 as well, especially as new direct routes will be operated. Plus the frequencies increased to other already existing destinations.
