New rules for entering Italy: the test is reintroduced for all travelers in the European Union!

Italy reintroduces the obligation to present a negative test to all passengers arriving from European Union (EU) countries. The decision will also apply to ALL those who will travel from Romania to Italy. The decision was made by an ordinance signed on Tuesday by the Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza.

PCR (not older than 48 hours after harvest) or antigen (not older than 24 hours after harvest) tests will be accepted. Passengers must also have a Green Pass following vaccination / recovery and the European Digital Passenger Location Form (DPLF).

The rule will remain in force for the period December 16 - January 31. The decision was made at a time when the pandemic is growing, with about 20.000 new infections every day. Those who are not vaccinated, in addition to the test, must comply with a quarantine of five days, according to the document.

New rules for entry into Italy

So far, in order to enter Italy from the EU, only the health certificate from resulting in being vaccinated, having a disease, or having a negative test. From 16 December, this last requirement will be mandatory for all travelers.

The Covid-19 test was mandatory to enter Italy from most non-EU countries, such as the United States, Saudi Arabia, Japan, the United Kingdom, Chile, Uruguay, Israel, or South Korea. Italy has banned access to South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia and Swaziland.

In addition to these border measures, Italy has severely limited the social life of the unvaccinated. Only those who have been vaccinated or have passed the disease have the right to enter the Green Pass in cinemas, theaters, bars and restaurants. This measure is valid until January 15, with the possibility of extension.
