After a total delay of almost a decade, the long-awaited Berlin airport, also known as Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), will OFFICIALLY open on October 31, 2020.

The long-awaited event will be marked by a special parallel landing operated by EasyJet and Lufthansa aircraft. Once operations begin, EasyJet and Lufthansa will be the largest air carriers flying from Brandenburg (BER).

AirBerlin, once the second largest airline in Germany, would have been proud of the new house, but went bankrupt in October 2017.

At the end of 2019, the grand opening of the new airport of the German capital was set for October 2020, the date that was observed after years of failures.

But there have been flights operated from BER since October 25. And that's because Schönefeld Airport (SXF), which exists in the same yard as BER, will officially become Terminal 5 of the new airport and will receive the IATA code BER.

According to current plans, the current and main airport in Berlin - Berlin Tegel (TXL) - will continue to be operational until November 8, when it will officially close.
