Craiova International Airport invests 100 million EURO in modernization for a targeted traffic of 2 million passengers per year!
Craiova International Airport has announced development and modernization projects worth over 100 million EURO, aiming to increase the number of passengers to 2 million each year. It seems an impressive figure, in the context in which Craiova airport reports approximately 500 passengers annually.
An expansion project with two more buildings is currently underway: the arrivals terminal in the eastern part of the existing terminal and the departures terminal west of the existing terminal. At the end of the works, the built area related to the proposed extensions will be 1509 sqm, the total value of the project amounting to 6,4 million euros.
Craiova International Airport invests 100 million EURO
A second ongoing development project has a value of 97 million euros and is funded by the Large Infrastructure Operational Program 2014-2020, Priority Axis 2. The investment involves the design and execution of several objectives: two new roads, one new passenger terminal, passenger transfer area and more. The built area of the terminal will be 12.791 sqm, with a developed area of 27.547 sqm. The passenger terminal will be designed so that it can serve a traffic of 1.937.000 passengers / year and 807 passengers at peak hours. It will be equipped with equipment and control systems to increase the safety and security of passengers and their luggage.
The other investments made in the project include the construction of parking lots, access roads, photovoltaic power plant, arrangement of the level surface of the runway and the arrangement of the safety area, arrangement of the level surface of the lane, ensuring the buried protection surfaces, construction of the perimeter security fence , construction of access roads and technological roads and breathable platforms.

Craiova International Airport wants to create a modern operational base so that, through the project, new equipment will be purchased, intended for the maintenance of airport areas as well as equipment for emergency interventions, respectively a number of 14 equipment.
As part of this approach, Craiova International Airport will be equipped with two fire trucks, specific to airport interventions, an aircraft de-icer and a runway de-icer, as well as maintenance, runway cleaning and snow removal trucks.
